Field Trip!

The preschool class took it's annual field trip to the orchard today. After a lesson on how bees pollinate the apple trees (that's the kids below pretending to be bees), we went on a ride, got an apple, and picked a pumpkin from the patch. We topped off the day with cider and donuts, plus a romp in the play area. Fall fun! Chloe didn't feel like getting her picture taken today but we managed to catch her in a few :)

Maybury Farm

Next to Maybury State Park is a fun little petting farm named Maybury Farm. Once a summer we try to go over there to see the animals and, of course, play on their wooden play structure. The summer had gotten away from us so here it was September 3oth and we hadn't stopped by yet. It was a beautiful (but windy) day so I picked up the girls from school and we headed to Maybury Farm to have a picnic lunch and visit the animals. The girls ran and ran and played and played until it closed at 2pm. We literally closed the place!

September Randoms

The big weekend starting the month was Labor Day! We walked a new trail at Mayberry State Park and then tried out a new breakfast restaurant.

We had our first Adventurer field trip for the year to the Leslie Science and Nature Center in Ann Arbor. We each got to release a butterfly. It was terrifying but memorable :)

The next weekend we had a family potluck with some of my dad's family. We hardly ever get to see them so it was great to catch up!

So, as usual we had a busy month. Mostly good except for...moment of silence...one day we came home and found this...

A squirrel dug up our fairy garden! During the clean up we didn't find anything buried so we can only assume he was looking for something. I'm guessing it was the same brilliant squirrel who stole a lemon off our tree and tried to bury it in the yard. For now we cleaned it up and put all of our decorations in the garage for the winter. I'm not sure what we'll do next summer - if we'll have to put it in the house or do something to deter the animals.

Of course the weather in September was beautiful and we had some chances to go out and play after lunch. We are really going to miss these days when the weather turns!

The following Sabbath we decided to take advantage of the nice weather. We went to Sabbath School and then went out to the park and took a nice, long walk.

The next day we went out to breakfast and then met up with some of the family for miniature golf. Megan started off slow but then once she decided that she didn't need the club and could bowl the golf ball into the hole instead, we really picked up the pace.  We topped off our afternoon with a round of ice cream.

I'm thinking that September is my second favorite month after May :)
