October Randoms

Halloween

I'm not big into Halloween. I just hate the emphasis on such dark themes. Some of the shows and movies that are featured this time of year just creep me out. I was telling Nathan about a house I pass going through town and how it was decked out like a graveyard. Seriously, I cannot imagine sleeping at night with this set up in my yard. My two cute scarecrows were scary enough. 

Then taking the girls to music class I was stopped behind a car and saw this...

 
The most we do is let the girls dress up and go out to see our neighbors to do their trick-or-treating. We're lucky that our neighborhood is small - 25 houses on the whole street - so we can go to every house in about 30 minutes. This year it was rainy but warm so both girls came out with me. They got a ton of candy and goodies. 

Adventurers - October

For our second month of Adventurers, we did an honor on Jesus and Community Helpers. On Sabbath the kids did crafts and dressed up like children from Jesus' time. They also played a game that Jesus might have played as a child. On Sunday, the Northville Fire Department stopped by to give the kids a talk about fire safety, what to do in a fire, and how to make a plan to escape a fire safely. They also showed them the fire truck. Chloe got to jump inside (with the help of one of the firefighters) and see what the inside looks like. It was a lot of fun! Chloe just loves Adventurers.

Friends

We had such a fun day with our friends Judy and Brianna! We don't get to see them enough. Lunch, ice cream, and a cider mill.  Gorgeous fall day. Wonderful from start to finish.

 

Pooky's Birthday

Probably one of the more ridiculous things we've done in recent years is to throw a little family birthday party for our cat. Now, this might not seem all that odd to you because a lot of people do this, but for us it's pretty weird. She was turning 10, though, so it seemed appropriate to acknowledge her birthday in some way. 

Her birthday landed on a Saturday (October 5th) so the girls and I decorated the front door with a banner and birthday balloon. We also got out the "Birthday Girl" hat to put on Pooky while we sang to her. Since I'm sure you're wondering, we coaxed Pooky out from under the bed with promises of treats and kept her by the door with...treats. The party lasted all of three minutes but the girls thought it was fun and Pooky got a few treats out of it.
