"To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place...I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them." ~ Elliott Erwitt

Cemetery
The girls and I took a trip to Battle Creek for my cousin's open house over Memorial Day weekend. We had some extra time so we stopped at the cemetery to visit graves. (My Dad, step-mom Chris, niece Delaney and nephew Alex were also there.) The girls had been in their carseats a lot that day so we let them run and explore. My mom's grave is right next to her parents, and then there are other relatives close by. Cemetery visits are always hard for me - I like going because that's where my mom is but it's hard still being so far from her. It feels like forever until I'm going to see her again. Plus I wish she had met Nathan and been able to know my girls. Makes me sad to think that there is so much of my life she never got to share with me. Can't wait until our reunion in heaven!

Visit from Grandpa and Grandma
Grandpa and Grandma are home from Florida! We haven't seen them since February when they were made a quick trip to MI. They drove down to have lunch with us. It was so great to see them!

Outing
We hadn't been over to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens in a while so we took advantage of a really nice day to head over there for some exercise. We took a picnic lunch of some sandwiches, crackers, fruit, and drink pouches. After walking through the children's garden, we took one of the shorter trails that wraps around a small river. It felt so good to be out in the sunshine and fresh air!
After walking in 80 degree heat we decided we'd earned some ice cream so we stopped at Dairy King to get some liquid happiness. Nathan got his orange slushy float, Chloe got her chocolate vanilla twist in a cup, and I got probably the best Turtle flurry I've ever had :) Soooo delish!

Megan's Toy Box
Nathan's dad has made toy boxes for all the grandkids. Megan's was done this week so he dropped it off at our house. It turned out so cute! The girls had fun playing around it (and even inside of it). It will be getting a lot of use!

Breakfast in the Park
We had an early appointment to get my car worked on in town so we packed a breakfast picnic to eat while we waited. We walked about half a mile to the downtown and then made ourselves at home on a park bench by the water fountain. It was a beautiful morning and we had so much fun watching the water, seeing other kids, and petting some friendly dogs.

Monday, Monday
We bought a new television in August 2011. Nathan wanted a plasma tv so we got a nice, big Panasonic. Monday morning we tried to turn it on and only got red blinks. Not good. We had to call a repair shop to come out and fix it for WAY too much money. But look at this thing - it's not like we could have fixed it ourselves! We contacted Panasonic because we thought 21 months was a little quick to have these big repairs and they did offer to pay us back a very small part of the bill.
The good news about Monday was that a dear old friend from Lansing stopped by to see us. I've known Civa since the early 1990's. We got to know each other really well in 1994 when we both went on a Habitat for Humanity trip to Kentucky with our church. Anyway, she'd made a quick trip home to see her mom and stopped to see us on the way to the airport. Chloe was still sleeping but Megan was up from her nap and had fun playing with Civa's phone.
