The Winter Blues

It's been a really long time since I posted a blog entry. I didn't mean to wait so long to post again but it's been another one of those winters here. On New Years Eve I woke up with a headache and felt really tired. I managed to participate in my day until early afternoon (we met family for breakfast in the morning and got home after lunch).  I remember sitting down in the recliner and suddenly felt really weak. Then came the chills. "Hmm. This feels like the flu. But I got a flu shot so maybe I just need a good night's sleep." I'd like to think I at least got a milder version of the flu because I got the flu shot but what I had did not feel mild. Instead of staying up to see 2014 cross the threshold, I went to bed at 8:30pm. On a fleece blanket. With two blankets and a down comforter on top. The next day my throat started to hurt really, really a lot. A LOT. I missed two days of work and ended up on antibiotics for Strep. The Flu/Strep/Cold combo virus lasted in a mild form for most of January. I'm not kidding. I think I might still have a touch of the cough 6 weeks later.

Oh ya, and Megan got an eye infection the day before so we got to be on antibiotics at the same time.  Nathan got my flu about 3 days after me. I thought the house was going to be quarantined with people leaving food for us on the porch.  We made it without assistance.

It's cold. We go days without sunshine. Everyone seems to be either getting or getting over a cold. Six feet of snow covers my lawn. If I could have stayed in my sweatpants and read books for the last 6 weeks, that's exactly what I would have been doing. Instead, I did manage to function and get out there.

We got to see my family mid-January for a late Christmas (I made chocolate brownies and fried ice cream for dessert).  Chloe had Adventurers the following weekend and she got to visit shut-ins when the group performed at a nursing home.  Took the girls to Sesame Street Live!  Braved the cold. Played outside and shoveled snow.  Spent lazy snowy days making Lego houses. Tried our hand at making chocolate lava cake.

Here's to January! We rocked it even though it tried to bring us down...
