Surviving August

Every so often we have a month that I am very glad to see in the rear-view mirror. August 2015 was that for us. We started the month with a million plans - a visit to DeTour, lots of visits with friends, a family get-together, a Detroit Tigers game. Phew! Lots of fun planned!

The month started off fine and then...August 5th. Nathan woke up early in the morning (I mean early...like 2am) with severe abdominal pain. Two hours later it was worse so off the four of us went to the ER. Turns out he had a very large kidney stone that was trying (unsuccessfully) to make its way out. We loaded up on the pain meds and decided to go ahead and make our trip to DeTour.  It wasn't the trip we were planning, but it provided a change of scenery (some distant cousins were also visiting so the girls had playmates). We came back the next week so Nathan could see the doctor again and come up with a game plan for removing the kidney stone. (I won't go into details, but after a few weeks, we did get the stone broken up and on it's way out!)

Unfortunately, Nathan was not feeling great most of the month so we had to alter some of our plans a bit, but we managed to still keep on. What an end to the summer!

Some photos of our trip to DeTour:

We had a family weekend in Lansing where we got to see a lot of my mom's family. The girls and I spent the night on Saturday and then my brother and I went to a Detroit Tigers game with friends.

We had a visit from friends Christy and Rachel. We had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory and had a great time catching up!

We ended the month with a cousin's birthday party at an art studio! Fun!

Fairy Garden Update! We've been working hard and added a few more items. We still need a house but the girls love it. They water the plants every day and check on it all the time.

Ok August, we're done with you! See ya next year!
