On our way to DeTour!

Wow, this summer is just flying by! All of a sudden it was time for our yearly trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for a week with the Fountain family. We left on Saturday, June 30 - it was a beautiful day for a really long drive with two kids :-)  Our plan was to stop at Cracker Barrel for breakfast but we quickly opted for "Plan B" (Burger King drive thru) once Chloe took a short nap and woke up screaming.

We planned to get our traditional "veggie Whopper, no meat, plus cheese" but apparently that "have it your way" slogan didn't apply to getting a Whopper at 9:30am. So, I got a breakfast burrito, hashbrowns, and an OJ while Nathan got a breakfast sandwich and hashbrowns. Pretty good for Plan B and it helped us make pretty good time on our trip. Until about 30 minutes later when it was determined a diaper pit stopped was needed. We won't name names.

Back on the road!

The breakfast food didn't last as long as we'd hoped and by the time we made it to Gaylord we were hankering for our veggie Whoppers. So, off to exit we went through yet another BK drive thru.

Once we were back on the highway there was a brief slow-down due to an accident (a big RV was in the ditch!) but that did make it safe for me to get a photo of this sign that I always say I'm going to photograph.

Cool, eh?

Our next stop was Mackinaw City. We always stop here to take one last break before crossing over The Bridge. Plus, both last year and this year we had little girls who were making their first trip across to the U.P. so we had to stop and get photos.

And away we go! Hello Mackinac Bridge!

We finally arrived a little after 3:00. After some unpacking and relaxing, we had a light supper crafted by our sister-in-law. Don't these salads look yummy?
